Ten Degrees South visitor information

visas for Tanzania

For most nationalities it is possible to get your visa on arrival. However, you should check with the Tanzanian High Commission in your home country before you travel.

If possible, we recommend getting your visa in advance as this will save you time at the airport on arrival.

overnights in Dar es Salaam

If you plan to stay in Dar es Salaam during your visit to us, there is a good choice of hotels catering to all budgets. We have included those that we have stayed in in the past on the right.

money

Travellers' cheques are difficult to cash in Tanzania, so we suggest you bring US$ in $100 or $50 bills; smaller denominations get lower exchange rates. Many businesses will accept US$ for payment as well as local currency.

Alternatively, it is possible to get cash from ATMs using debit/credit cards, but this is easier in Dar es Salaam than Mtwara. Visa is the most widely accepted card, although Mastercard and Maestro can sometimes be used.

PLEASE NOTE: We do NOT accept credit cards in payment, but we do accept US$ or TZS.

health

For information and advice on vaccinations and general health care on holiday visit one of the healthcare links to the right.

We recommend that you take malaria medication during your stay, but suggest you do NOT take Larium if you wish to dive - see the eco2 Health factsheet.
